Business Development Manager - Germany

Job Introduction

The role of the business development manager is to research potential opportunities to engage and support local businesses, as they bid for and potentially win contracts locally and internationally. This support will most likely take the form of working with the ALE and client engineering team to design and create solutions to the unique challenges faced, then develop a network of key relationships through which ALE wil receive requests for proposals or quotations.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have a technical experience or background, which you will have used as a platform to build a career in sales or business development.  You ideally will have an understanding of the heavy lifting and transport engineering business that we specialize in. Because of your prior experience in business development you will know the key influencers, and have a clear picture of how to introduce ALE's solutions as well as how to facilitate ALE's engagement in the development cycle of projects.

You will be confident, multilingual, highly credible at executive level, happy to work alone and capable of both developing a realistic business development plan, and then executing it successfully.

Role Responsibility

  • Develop the presence of the ALE business that would require the support of ALE's heavy lifting and transport engineering solutions in Germany
  • Build a portfolio of contacts
  • Engage with contacts and share ALE's value propostion
  • Work with engineering teams to create innovative solutions to client problems
  • Engage with potential clients to enable early involvement in project work
  • Prepare bids / tender documentation
  • Track activities using Microsoft Dynamics Client Relationship Management (CRM) software

The Ideal Candidate


  • Good commercial accumen
  • Intermediate Excel / Word / PowerPoint / Outlook
  • Degree or equivalent in a related Engineering discipline


  • Knowledge about heavy lifting / transport engineering and its part in major projects


  • Commercial/Business development experience in heavy lift / transport  market - established industry contact networks, presenting up to executive board level, leading bids, securing contracts with individual values up to and above €1m

  • Native in German language
  • Fluent English - written and spoken
  • Skilled networker

  • Skilled prospector
  • Capable of forming on a 12-month business plan

Personal attibutes:

  • Willigness to travel and work away from your office
  • High level of self-motivation

Other requirement:

  • Driving licence
  • Living in Germany
