Crane Operator

Job Introduction

ALE provide bespoke transport, lifting and installation solutions based upon each client's needs. As Crane Operator, you will be at the forefront of these operations, you will therefore be committed to carrying out all of your duties in a safe, responsible and efficient manner. Your primary role will be to operate cranes for the lifting of heavy items.

No two projects are the same, and project sites will be at several destinations both nationally and internationally.  If you’re looking for a role that provides constant challenge and variety, then look no further.

Role Responsibility

  • Operate and drive mobile and/or crawler cranes;
  • Installation, loading, offloading of heavy and abnormal loads;
  • Ensure all pre-operational checks are carried out and recorded, and report any deviations and / or malfunctions of equipment in a timely manner. When equipment has been reassembled post-transport, ensure a functional test is carried out on site;
  • Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with legal, company and client regulations;
  • General maintenance of equipment
  • Liaise daily with supervisor, operations manager and / or line manager
  • Deliver, organize and attend toolbox talks and kick-off meetings at the beginning of each project;
  • Ensure that all Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental (HSQE) requirements are met, and promote and participate in all HSQE and training initiatives such as SSOT;
  • Follow the correct procedure to report details of any accident, incident or nonconformity and to participate in the investigation of the aforementioned;
  • Use all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). It is your responsibility to maintain all PPE issued to you and to report any defects as soon as possible. Ensure all other ALE personnel wear PPE;
  • Should you feel that safety is being compromised, then it is your duty to bring the matter to the attention of a member of the senior management team;
  • To contribute to a co-operative working environment within the company;
  • Promote and ensure good housekeeping is practiced at all times;
  • To understand that preventing injury, damage and nonconformity will improve company profit and efficiency

The Ideal Candidate




  • Qualified and licenced crane operator


  • Licenses for plant and equipment



  • Clear understanding of the relevant equipment and its use


  • Rigging



  • Experience with cranes, heavy lifting and rigging


  • Maintenance of cranes



  • The ability to plan, organize and work efficiently under pressure
  • Competent English speaker
  • Clear understanding of the relevant equipment and its use



  • High level of self-motivation and confidence
  • Good communicator – able to give clear concise instructions to operational personnel
  • Able to work as part of a team and assist in all job requirements
  • Able to learn new techniques and procedures


  • Able to adapt communication style to suit audience (Site operator – Client – Project manager)
  • Proactive
  • Able to invent and propose new methods of work / modifications to existing systems
  • Able to solve ad-hoc problems quickly with clearly defined solutions



  • Willing to travel and work nationally and internationally for extensive periods
