Design Engineer

Job Introduction

The role of Design Engineer is to participate in the design of new innovative ALE equipment. The Design Engineer transforms ideas into real products. The role offers the chance to combine creativity with engineering expertise.The developed products need to be safe and practical for use and have to be made cost-effectively and efficiently.

Role Responsibility

  • Designing new structures and equipment in cooperation with other structural and mechanical engineers and other disciplines, such as controls, hydraulics and electrical
  • Structural and mechanical engineering for new and existing equipment by means of conventional hand calculations and FEA
  • Liaising with internal and external clients to ensure the requirements are met
  • Preparing Design Bases and Specifications for new projects and designs
  • Be an active and proactive part in the risk assessment process throughout the whole project duration
  • Ownership of the design process from idea to drawing, in cooperation with our drafting department
  • Support the project stakeholders during the  procurement, fabrication, testing and commissioning processes, including site functional tests (travelling overseas, when required)
  • Managing a small team of engineers on a project basis and monitoring the quality of work, progress, development and cost effectiveness.
  • Advising, assisting and coaching engineers in their daily work and development, and reviewing their calculations
  • Contributing to a pro-active and co-operative working environment within the company

The Ideal Candidate


  • Mechanical, Civil Engineer or equivalent, with interest in large scale projects.
  • Experience in the design of winchsystems, reevings, sheaves and lifting blocks.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a comparable position in the industry
  • Fluent in English
  • Knowledge of and experience with IT applications such as Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access).
  • Knowledge of and experience with AutoCad, AutoCad 3D and Inventor
  • Knowledge of and experience with a FEA software, including linear and non-linear analysis.
  • Experience in strategic thinking, viewing an opportunity as part of an overall situation or system


  • Knowledge of German, French and/or Spanish are a plus.  
  • HBO/Bachelors or University degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience in the design of systems actuated by hydraulic cylinders.
  • Structures dynamics analysis


  • Relevant experience in a similar position
  • Knowledge of and experience with RFEM software
  • VCA-II certificate
