Engineering Manager - Thailand

Job Introduction

ALE has been present in Thailand for over 20 years and the business has expanded in the recent years to cover the increasing demand on the renewables and power generation markets. An Engineering Manager is required to train, mentor and drive the local engineering team to support the expansion of the business.

As the Engineering Manager for Thailand you will oversee engineering performance across the Thai home and site offices, ensuring company guidelines are adopted for engineering, health, safety, quality & environment. This will include development and approval of new concepts for heavy lifting and transport engineering.

Furthermore, you will set the vision for, and oversee the training, coaching and mentoring of all engineers across all disciplines in the country.

Role Responsibility


Implement and ensure all relevant engineering guidelines are followed by each engineer within your remit.

Manage and distribute the engineering deliverables for projects across the country, manage day to day deliverables for the Thai business.

Manage and control the quality of engineering output from the country, and ensure all engineering KPI’s are met by the Thai engineers.

Implement strategies to ensure future progression and development of the engineers.

Ensure all engineering deliverables are in accordance with company management system standards and strive to lead advancement of these deliverables and standards.

Set the direction and goals for all engineers based in the country.

Support engineers in the planning and organising of their workloads ensuring that they perform their given tasks to an acceptable standard and to their given deadlines.

Attend operational planning meetings to establish current and future work requirements and agree deadlines for submission of documentation.

Coach and train engineers on the production of design calculations to relevant standards. 

Set the standard for production approval of MS documentation to ALE standards and guidelines.

Establish good relationships with external and internal stakeholders.

Assist sales department with Client meetings where necessary, and provide technical input.

Establish good relationships between engineering, operations and commercial teams in order to ensure accurate planning of projects. Prepare and issue equipment lists, plant requirements, labour requirements and MS in advance of project commencement.

Establish and reinforce best practice in site visits to measure and record specific information and ensure that this information is incorporated into the MS/RA.

Ensure instructions are issued to allow work to progress and facilitates agreement between conflicting technical requirements. Leads way forward during tendering and execution phase.

Understands and assesses the company health, safety, quality and environment requirements and ensures these are implemented correctly.

Assist the Regional Engineering Manager in seeking and developing innovative methods to improve efficiencies, improve equipment, enhance safety and / or provide new market opportunities.

Be a point of contact with the client on site in the case of large / complex projects and operations with regards to coordination, project programme, engineering issues HSQE and welfare issues.

Provide technical support to the country general manager and be the reference person for the Regional Engineering Manager for technical matters.

Assist the Regional Engineering Manager in managing the regional engineering resources, to provide the suitable engineering support to projects and proposals.

Take an active lead in HSQE – in engineering design, project execution, communication, behaviour.  Set the expectations with the general manager and reinforce regularly with coaching session, site visits and training.

Engage with the general manager and take an active role in the planning, attraction, selection and development of new engineering team members.

The Ideal Candidate



Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and/or Civil Engineering


Master degree in Mechanical Engineering and/or Civil Engineering



Principles of design engineering

Principles of the engineering process management

Steelwork fabrication.

Good knowledge of the engineering for heavy lifting and transport industry including

Large cranes lifts (tandem lifts, top&tail…).

Marine operations (load-in/out, barge transports design…)

Heavy haul transports on public roads.


Finite elements design.

Wind farm engineering for TCI scope.

Power gen installations (hydraulic and fixed gantries, skidding&jacking…)

Civil works (bridges installation, TBM parts launching…).



Relevant experience in a similar position.

+4 years experience in heavy lift industry, working for a HL/HH subcontractor.

Experience on site engineering and validation of engineering documentation.

Experience in strategic thinking, viewing an opportunity as part of an overall situation or system


Experience on wind farm jobs in remote areas.

Exposure to large oil&gas and/or power gen projects.



Confident in taking decisions on engineering matters.

Able to lead a team, giving direction, performance management and managing conflict.

Able to analyse the scope of work, identify the needed engineering and assign tasks to the team.

Able to assist the Sales team and the Management to create new business opportunities.

Able to think out of the box.

Capable user of AutoCAD or similar

IT applications such as Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access).

Fluent in English, written and spoken

Ability to work in a multicultural environment


Capable user of AutoCAD 3D or similar



Willingness to learn and interest in large scale projects

Pro-active and results-driven




Detail orientated

Calm and methodical



Driving licence


Flexibility is required and willingness to travel frequently.
