General Manager - USA

Job Introduction

Our Houston office is the hub of ALE’s USA sales effort, which has been an important platform for driving our growth and success both internationally and more recently nationally.

. As Vice President / General Manager of our business in USA, you will be responsible for taking the group’s vision and values, selecting opportunities with US clients both internationally and nationally and turning them into realistic client proposals, which makes ALE the preferred choice for their heavy lift and transport solutions.  You will achieve this by working closely with the rest of the ALE Regional management team and stakeholders from other ALE business units; nurturing your own USA team; establishing and monitoring the business performance against clearly defined objectives; seeking new opportunities and ventures, and continually developing the ALE profile within the USA. 

You will probably have an engineering background, which will be married to some significant commercial insights (from both a business development and contractual perspective) gained nationally and ideally also internationally through work in relevant industrial sectors such as: oil and gas, power generation, mining and offshore.

This is a rare opportunity to take an influential role at ALE, and which could in turn be the springboard to an executive role in a fast growing, dynamic and innovative global business.

Role Responsibility

  • Ensure ALE USA activities meet with and integrate with the group’s standards for quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, environmental policies and duty of care.
  • Ensure the business operates lawfully and ethically.
  • Plan, develop and implement strategies for ALE USA to meet its objectives with regards to Return on Investment, budget and timescales.
  • Develop, support and drive international and national sales throughout the region.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate systems for measuring operational performance and development.
  • Monitor measure and report on operational issues, opportunities and development plans and achievements within agreed formats and timescales.
  • Manage and develop direct and indirect reporting staff.
  • Determine staffing requirements, interview and oversee training of new and existing employees, or
  • Oversee personnel processes in accordance with ALE standards and policies
  • Manage and control ALE USA expenditure within agreed budgets.
  • Liaise with General Managers from other ALE business units so as to understand all necessary aspects and needs of the wider group and to ensure they are fully supported and consistent with the agreed ALE USA development strategy.
  • Meet agreed performance targets.
  • Promote the ALE brand

The Ideal Candidate

QUALIFICATIONS

ESSENTIAL

  • Degree or equivalent

DESIRABLE

  • Degree in engineering, logistics, transport.
  • Postgraduate qualification in business related discipline

KNOWLEDGE

ESSENTIAL

  • Knowledge of the heavy lift and transport market, competitors and potential clients in the US.

EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL

  • At least 3 years’ experience leading a business unit

DESIRABLE

  • At least 5 years’ experience working at a senior management level

SKILLS & ABILITIES

ESSENTIAL

  • The ability to inspire, nurture and develop a management team.
  • The ability to communicate effectively within a global organization.
  • Able to inspire confidence with client’s senior executives.
  • Comfortable working under time pressures and resource constraints.
