Group Financial Controller

Job Introduction

The Group Financial Controller is a senior role that demands a thorough comprehension of the strategic direction of the group, the interests of the key stakeholder groups and the ability to effect change at all levels.  It is a pivotal role in the delivery of our strategic objectives and the effective communication with each of these groups within the company.  

This attractive position is the lead on all internal and external information reporting for the Group.  It requires excellent technical ability from multiple experiences in financial reporting (including IFRS) and strong communication and supervisory skills are also essential. The Group is privately owned, with clear strategic direction and is highly respected both within its sector and in the lender and financial adviser community.

You will be a Qualified Accountant, experienced in a similar or a leadership role. It is likely that you will have trained in practice and subsequently moved into industry, thereby building further team management experience. Up to date with current regulations affecting the industry and the effects upon the company, knowledgeable about company procedures and compliance issues, you ensure that all data gathering is efficient, built for scale, reporting is timely and accurate and tracks performance against strategic direction.

Reporting directly to the Group Finance Director, this is a great opportunity to further your commercial exposure whilst building your technical and leadership skills.  You will also have regular interaction with other board members and senior regional personnel.

You may already lead a small group accounting function or similar team or be in a senior role in a larger group as a financial accountant or reporting accountant. In this role you will run a small group finance function and manage (dotted line) the 5 regional financial controllers who provide first line financial support to the 40 branches. You will build your sector knowledge to provide increased commercial value add in time and you will be supported with training and development in this area. You will be encouraged to undertake further training to maintain your CPD.

You will report data monthly internally and quarterly to our stakeholders. This requires polished communication skills; you will be adept at communicating financial content to non-financial professionals and leading a worldwide audit process to an agreed timetable. Integrity, conviction in your professional opinion and a dedication to purpose are essential.

You will demonstrate the ability to plan and execute a routine programme of reviews of branch controls and reporting. You will work independently, connecting where appropriate with other specialist functions and advisers, and establish strong professional relationships internally and externally. Our global footprint and the nature of our operations necessitates international travel, you will routinely visit our branches especially our hub locations including but not limited to the UK (Stafford), Europe (Holland & Spain), South America (Argentina), Middle East (Abu Dhabi) and Asia Pacific (Malaysia).

Role Responsibility

  • Annual Budget Process
  • Monthly, quarterly and annual consolidated Management Accounts of the Group
  • Annual Statutory Accounts of the Group
  • Monthly Board Report and Quarterly Lender Update including narrative on headline activities versus budget and prior year
  • Second Line Assurance on internal control compliance (review of Regional Financial Controllers and branch visits)
  • Lead advisor to the group on External Reporting (IFRS) and tax
  • Lead contact on the annual external audit
  • Support the Group Finance Director on other projects as required from time to time
  • Consolidated Group Reports including weekly STCF and other balance sheet reports
  • Continued development of an effective group accounting function

The Ideal Candidate



  • Qualified Accountant (CA, ACCA or CIMA)



  • IFRS
  • Running a timely Group Accounting function


  • Project Based Accounting
  • Tax Compliance



  • Knowledge of financial controls & reporting


  • 5 years post qualification experience in a similar role
  • Use of ERP reporting system
  • Travel, working in differing cultural/geographic environments



  • English speaker (fluent)
  • Strong ICT skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively to Branch, Region and Board level



  • Enthusiastic, self-starter

  • Open to learning and development
