Regional Contracts Manager – Asia & Australia

Job Introduction

You will play the lead role in our business when it comes to providing advice, proactive guidance and support on commercial, contractual and legal matters in the Asia and Australia regions including our Wind Energy business.

 You will be closely involved with our commercial teams (reporting to the Regional Director) and will provide them with advice, guidance and support on the contractual side of the commercial process.  Thereafter you will assist our project managers by providing legal, contractual and commercial support during the project execution phase.  You will have a powerful mix of relevant sector experience, a deep understanding of the commercial function, and sound legal skills.  This will enable you to not only recognise the key issues in a contract, but also to give a balanced view of the risks against the reward.

Role Responsibility

Core role

  • Support the commercial teams in tenders and negotiation of contracts, optimising price and quality against risk
  • Support and guide the commercial and project management teams in the region by providing legal, contractual and commercial support to ensure we minimise costs and maximise value
  • Directly support financial and contractual negotiations where required.
  • Guiding and advising the business on all claims and disputes.
  • Managing debtors and resolving payment issues.
  • First point of call for all external legal advice.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate contract terms, pricing and payment schedule, ensuring that the agreements with the customers are commercially advantageous to ALE.
  • Intervene in, analyse, manage and resolve business conflicts to minimise disputes with clients / sub-contractors.
  • Establish and maintain long-term working relationships or partnerships between the company and clients.
  • Timely resolution of claims, disputes and debt.
  • Establish the key objectives to be achieved during contract negotiations.
  • Report promptly on contractual issues having the potential to materially threaten the business.
  • To participate as a member of the management team playing an active role in the development of the business.

The Ideal Candidate

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE

ESSENTIAL

  • Contracting, legal or similar qualifications

DESIRABLE

  • Educated to degree level, relevant degree (legal, QS, management or finance)

EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL

  • Three years’ experience in dealing with corporate contracting matters
  • Previous experience working for a Subcontractor.
  • Good understanding of contracting, principles and practices
  • Good understanding of English contract law / construction law and experience in Asia and or Australia.
  • Previous working in the Asia and or Australia region

DESIRABLE

  • Experience of developing and writing strategies, policies and plans, claims/complaint handling, financial management and budgetary control,
  • Understanding of Court processes and procedures
  • Some experience of working internationally
  • Involved in working with / for EPCs
  • Oil and Gas and Power sector experience
  • Experience in the renewables sector.
